Netherlands and into Germany

Here you see the Edam Town Hall built in 1737 on the left and a church and a cafe on the right. The Town Hall is surprisingly large for a town of this size. Back in the 16th century however, it was one of the more important cities of North Holland with its large harbour. Unfortunately the open sea mouth caused flooding problems inland and they were forced to close it off. Once the harbour silted up the ship building industry went into a decline.
